But if you make an altar of stone for me, do not build it of cut stone, for by putting a chisel to it you profane it.

Exodus 20:25; The first temple was also not made with and cutting devise nor any metal device. Yonasan said this was done because it was learned (Talmud) that metal shortens a persons life (made from a breaking down of particles) and the temple promotes life. Therefore these were opposing actions.
