HEBREW INSIGHTS (by Tikvah Ott)
"Many believers from the nations want to be called Messianic - the followers of YESHUA the Messiah :) I like it... but also to be called a Christian in Hebrew has a powerful meaning. It is mentioned in the Word more than 60 times and following are some examples:
Christian in Hebrew = No-tzreem The root word of No-tzreem is Netzer;
Netzer - Notzrim - Christian
1. The keeper or guard (for me is keeper of the word) Psalm 119 22: "... I keep your statutes." "כי עדותיך נצרתי" Proverbs 28 7: "He who Keeps the law is a discerning son." "נוצר תורה בן מבין" And many more...
2. The shoot from the root - Netzer Isaiah 11:1 "A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse from his roots a branch will bear fruit." "ויצא חוטר... נצר"
3. Notzrim - Watchmen - Jeremiah 31 5-6: "There will be a day when watchmen cry out..." "יש יום קראו נוצרים...
4. Nitzra Psalm 141:3 "Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips." Nitzra is the safety on the weapon securing the trigger lest we shoot unbecoming words.
5. And Matthew 2:23 "And he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets: "He will be called Notzri" (how fitting if you are from Nazareth!) Nazareth is the town in the north of Israel and the root notzri is within the name Nazareth.
So it is ok to be called Notzrim (Christian). It is biblical... : )
