In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed—the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not.

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. when I fixed limits for it and set its doors and bars in place,when I said, ‘This far you may come and no farther; here is where your proud waves halt’?

“But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
