Jesus used to appear to the apostles for forty days. At the end of the forty days he asked them not to move until they get the Holy Spirit. Acts : But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Jesus was taken to heaven right before their eyes. They needed one to replace Judas, and Matthias was chosen

The Pentecost day
Tongues of fire came to rest on each of them
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues
Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much wine.”
Peter said to them : These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! Peter said, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit
those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day
All the believers were together and had everything in common ( the first early church )

One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer
a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful
Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk
instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk
Then they spoke to the onlookers

4. Acts 4

The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people. They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people
they put them in jail until the next day
The judges commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus
Peter said ; we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard
After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened

5. Acts 5

a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet
Peter said to him ; You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”
When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died and about three hours later his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. Peter asked her, “Tell me, is this the price you and Ananias got for the land?
“Yes,” she said, “that is the price.” At that moment she fell down at his feet and died They arrested the apostles and put them in the public jail. But during the night an angel of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out
Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.

Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, performed great wonders and signs among the people.
Nobody could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke
Then they secretly persuaded some men to say, “We have heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God
They seized Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin. They produced false witnesses All who were sitting in the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen, and they saw that his face was like the face of an angel.

Stephen’s Speech to the Sanhedrin
When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.
They dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.
While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

Godly men buried Stephen and mourned deeply for him
Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison
Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria.
Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw
and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.” Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God

Saul conversion For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.
But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name
At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God
When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles

Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch

Saul heals a lame man When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in human form!” Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes because he was the chief speaker
Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead
