A short story is a short fictional prose narrative that usually makes up between and pages. The six elements of a short story are: setting, character, point of view, conflict, plot and theme/message. Plot is the sequence of events that catch interest and advance the plot. Exposition is the first part of the plot that introduces setting, characters, and the opening situation that leads to the climax. Conflict is the problem in the story. Climax is the turning point. Falling actions lead to the denouement. Resolution is where the problem is solved. Points of view is the vantage point in which the story is told. Characterization is the process by which the author reveals personality of the character. There are five different methods of indirect characterization. Speech, thought, action, effect, looks.
