1. Exposition

The first theme is tonic.The second theme is in the dominant or in the relative major ( if the movement is in a minor key ).There may be an introduction before the exposition .

2. Development
(NIV)
It changes to new keys, possibly even remote ones. Motives and themes from the exposition are developed.

3. Recapitulation
(NIV)
The two themes return in the tonic. There may be a coda after the recapitulation.
