You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise of the evil and the good and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

What is the first petition? “Hallowed be thy name.” What do we pray for in the first petition? That God’s name may be honored by us and all men. What is the second petition? “Thy kingdom come.” What do we pray for in the second petition? That the gospel may be preached in all the world, and believed and obeyed by us and all men.
