But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy, by washing of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the holy spirit you may abound in hope.

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father--Jesus Christ, the righteous.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
